A Utah girl has died after being involved in a serious accident in late April.
According to the South Jordan Police Department a 10 year-old girl was getting off of her school bus when she inexplicably crossed in front of oncoming traffic and was struck by a second school bus. According to witness statements, the driver of the school bus which struck the girl did not see her before colliding with her.
The victim, a student at Welby Elementary School, was rushed to Intermountain Medical Center, and from there flown to Primary Children’s Hospital in critical condition. Police say that the girl suffered severe head trauma in the accident. She died from her injuries two days after the accident.
Police have not announced any criminal charges as a result of the accident, and according to standard procedure, the driver of the bus which struck the girl has been placed on paid leave. Police say they do not believe the diver of the bus which struck the girl was distracted at the time of the incident.
In the wake of the tragedy, the Jordan School District is reviewing its school bus safety policies.
