Late on Sunday night, April 12, there was a fatal wrong way crash near Magna.

According to Utah Highway Patrol, the accident happened on Highway 201 near 10,000 West, when a white 2012 Ford Focus was being driven by eastbound but in the westbound lanes of the highway. The driver was 35 year old Jennifer Lynn Taylor of Stansbury Park and she was estimated to be driving over 90 mph.

Police saw the vehicle and tried to catch up with her but before they could do so she collided head on with a 2005 silver Subaru Legacy.

The Ford rolled several times and Taylor, who was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene. The Subaru driver was wearing a seat belt and only suffered minor injuries.

The accident remains under investigation but at this time alcohol is suspected as a factor.

On February 15 an eighth grader was injured in a snowboarding accident.

According to authorities the accident happened at Pomerelle Mountian Resort in Albion, when 13 year old Lexi Bingham was injured after going over a jump and falling forward onto her face during an annual ski trip with classmates. This was the first time she had been injured despite having been on the trip many times.

She suffered a broken neck and was taken to the Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City where she remains in intensive care. Doctors have told the family that Lexi is paralyzed, but as yet she is not aware of her prognosis as she is still on a ventilator and using a feeding tube. Once she is released, she will spend three to four months undergoing rehabilitation at the University of Utah hospital.

The Bingham family is now planning to sell their house to build a new one which is suitable for their daughter when she returns home.

On Tuesday morning a man was involved in a fatal scooter collision on 700 South in the area of 900 East in St. George.

According to police, the accident happened just before 7 in the morning on Tuesday and it appears that the scooter driver was traveling east on 700 South and had just traveled under the Interstate 15 overpass when the he lost control of the scooter. He then began to slide, was thrown off the scooter and landed close to the travel lane. A vehicle approached, and in an attempt to assist, he stopped and turned on his hazard lights. However, another vehicle approached and ran over the scooter driver.

The driver that struck the scooter driver stayed on the scene and cooperated with investigators. However, the motorist that stopped and turned on hazard lights left before police could talk to him.

The 18 year old rider was not breathing when police arrived and had sustained head injuries. He was taken to hospital where he died.

Though police were initially seeking the driver who stopped to render aid, they say they are no longer looking for him.

Police have not released the identity of the teen or why he lost control of his scooter, as the investigation is continuing.

Due mainly to bad weather there were three accidents within one hour on Friday morning in the western part of Summit County.

According to the Utah Highway Patrol, the first accident happened at 8.43 a.m. when a man from Coalville lost control of his Chevy Trailblazer as he was traveling westbound on Interstate 80 near the Kimball Junction exit. His Chevy hit the cement barrier before crossing both westbound lanes, and then overturned. He was transported to the University Of Utah Hospital after suffering head lacerations.

At the time the roads were wet and there were patches of black ice. Neither drugs nor alcohol are believed to be a factor.

Around half an hour later, a man driving a white Chevy pickup truck was traveling on the same part of I 80 near Kimball Junction when he lost control of his vehicle as he was coming round the very same curve and hit the same cement barrier. In this case the man was uninjured.

About 15 minutes later, a 27 year old Salt Lake City man suffered a seizure, causing the vehicle he was driving to hit the guardrail near the Jeremy Ranch exit. He was uninjured and reportedly suffered from a history of seizures. He was picked up at the scene by a family member.

An accident in Parley’s Canyon left a family of three lucky to be alive.

According to authorities, the accident happened shortly before 1 p.m. on Interstate 80 West in Parley’s Canyon. The driver of a green Avalon was with her 13 year old daughter and 10 year old son, and around 10 minutes behind them was her father, David Stokes. The woman hit a patch of black ice, lost control and slid underneath a semi trailer.

As David Stokes drove past he was horrified to see what looked like his daughter’s car underneath the semi. The Unified Fire Department arrived and helped all of the occupants out of the vehicle, and amazingly they all walked away without even a scratch.

The Utah Highway Patrol said that although the Interstate looked dry in Parley’s Canyon, black ice is difficult to spot and as conditions can change with a few minutes, drivers need to be aware that ice can always be present when temperatures drop below 32 degrees.

A man was killed on Christmas Eve in a rollover accident on Interstate 15 near Brigham City.

According to the Utah Highway Patrol, the accident happened just after 5 p.m. when 34 year old Ruon Meas was traveling northbound in the Interstate in a sport utility vehicle. For some reason he then drifted out of the far right lane and hit the rumble strips. He then over corrected and went left, crossed the highway again to the inside emergency lane and then made another over correction to the right. After crossing the highway the second time, his vehicle rolled at least four times and went down an embankment before eventually coming to rest in a farm field about 100 feet from the road.

Meas was the only occupant of the vehicle and he was transported by ambulance to Brigham City Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

An initial investigation found no signs that the victim was impaired or distracted, and he was wearing a seat belt.

An accident on Friday resulted in the death of a 14 year old girl.

According to Police in Twin Falls the accident happened around 7.45 p.m. on Friday in the 100 block of 7th Avenue North. When police were called to the scene they found the girl in the middle of the road and witness say she was riding on the trunk of a car, taking part in what is known as “car surfing’ when she fell off and hit the pavement.

The victim was taken to St. Luke’s in Twin Falls and from there she was later air lifted to Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah where she succumbed to her injuries and died.

The police have not yet released her name as the investigation is ongoing. They have said that the driver of the car was a 17 year old female whose name has also not been released and at this time no charges have yet been filed.

Following a car accident, a 3 year old boy is in critical condition.

According to Weber County Sheriff’s Office, the accident happened in west Weber County on Sunday night around 7 p.m. at the intersection of 4700 West and 900 South.

The boy’s mother who is aged 20 and from Plain City, was driving south in a Dodge Durango and she tried to turn left, but she drove directly in front of a northbound Dodge Ram 2500 that was traveling on 4700 West. The truck driver, a 38 year old man from Warren, could not avoid the Durango and smashed into it.

The Dodge Ram hit the passenger side directly and inside on the back seat, it is thought in a car seat, was the young boy. He was transported by medical helicopter in critical condition to Primary Children’s Hospital with injuries to his face and head.

Neither of the drivers was seriously injured.

The Sheriff’s Office said that the accident is under investigation and that drugs or alcohol are not believed to be a factor. The do believe however, that the boy’s mother failed to yield the right of way when turning in front of the truck.

On Thursday a man had to go to hospital having been hit off his bicycle.

According to Salt Lake City police, the incident took place just after 10.30 a.m. when a car and a cyclist were traveling west on 800 South near State Street. The car, which was being driven by 34 year old Russell Hobbs, then drifted into the bike lane, hitting the bicyclist and knocking him off his bicycle.

Police went on to say that Hobbs remained at the scene and the bicyclist was taken to an area hospital with serious injuries although they are not thought to be life threatening. His name was not released.

However, Hobbs was thought to be driving under the influence and was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, driving on an alcohol-related revoked, suspended or denied license, possession of a controlled substance, and improper lane movement.
