A Fatal Scooter Collision in St. George

On Tuesday morning a man was involved in a fatal scooter collision on 700 South in the area of 900 East in St. George.

According to police, the accident happened just before 7 in the morning on Tuesday and it appears that the scooter driver was traveling east on 700 South and had just traveled under the Interstate 15 overpass when the he lost control of the scooter. He then began to slide, was thrown off the scooter and landed close to the travel lane. A vehicle approached, and in an attempt to assist, he stopped and turned on his hazard lights. However, another vehicle approached and ran over the scooter driver.

The driver that struck the scooter driver stayed on the scene and cooperated with investigators. However, the motorist that stopped and turned on hazard lights left before police could talk to him.

The 18 year old rider was not breathing when police arrived and had sustained head injuries. He was taken to hospital where he died.

Though police were initially seeking the driver who stopped to render aid, they say they are no longer looking for him.

Police have not released the identity of the teen or why he lost control of his scooter, as the investigation is continuing.
