On Tuesday afternoon, December 1, a crash near the mouth of Parleys Canyon sent several people to the hospital with critical injuries.
According to the Utah Department of Transportation, the crash happened at around 4.20 p.m. in the northbound lanes of I 215 E near 3300 S.
John Campbell, age 41 from Sandy was driving a Subaru coming out of Parleys Canyon. It appears that he made a wrong turn and drove into oncoming traffic on I 215E, which led to a head on collision with a northbound Chrysler and pushed it into a third vehicle.
Campbell had to be extricated and was taken to University Hospital in critical condition and the female driver of the Chrysler was also taken to the hospital with what is thought to be two broken legs. Both have since been upgraded to serious condition.
The Utah Highway Patrol say that Campbell was impaired by drugs or alcohol and will be cited with a driving under the influence and driving the wrong way on a road.
